Who are we? Where do we come from? Where are we going? These questions have vexed people down through the ages, from theologians like Augustine to artists like Paul Gauguin to poets like Emily Dickinson. God gives healing answers to these perplexing questions, and He does so in a most remarkable way: through a true two-part story, the tale of two Adams. The Apostle Paul summarizes the tale in Romans 5:18–19, “as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man’s obedience the many will be made righteous.” Condemnation versus justification; disobedience versus obedience; when the first Adam sinned, God responded, “dust you are, and to dust you shall return.” But when God raised the second Adam from the dead, God declared Him to be the Son of God with power—and all those who trust in Him heirs of His glory! The tale of two Adams is therefore a story of redemption, of fallen creation and new creation, of humanity’s move from dust to glory through the grace of God.

At the 2015 Princeton Regional Conference on Reformed Theology, Philip Ryken and Phillip Johnson will unpack this story in all its transformative power. In doing so, they will remind us of some of the most essential aspects of Reformed theology, including a robust understanding of what it means to be created in the image of God and renewed in the image of Christ. Understanding the biblical answers to who we are, where we have come from, and where we are going will ground our hope firmly in the saving work of Christ. It will also reorient our faith toward the God who, in the risen Christ, has begun making all things new!
