Upcoming Movie

Runner's World reports on a new movie.

Runners and Christians everywhere will no doubt be excited to hear that a new movie is planned which will pick up the story of Eric Liddell where Chariots of Fire ended.  To those of us who are runners, CoF is without doubt the best running movie ever made.

When Your Husband is Addicted to Pornography

I saw that Tim Challies has highlighted that Vicki Tiede's book is available for free today on Kindle. I posted this review when it was first published two years ago and thought it would be a good idea to repost for those of you who may be wondering about it now that it is free!

Heroes and Villains

Scot McKnight offers some helpful correctives to those who need to remake Bonhoeffer as an American evangelical.

Over at his blog, Jesus Creed, New Testament scholar Scot McKnight offers some interesting reflections on the neglected topic of Dietrich Bonhoeffer's attitude to the work of Rudolf Bultmann.

Opposite but the Same

I remember the time. I remember it well. This girl was selected for the fashion page in my first year of high school. Yep, picture in the yearbook. That’s me in the mustard skirt, representing the girls in the Freshman class.

This is a reputation I took seriously. I didn’t want to be like all the others--- you know, those who wore what the mannequins in the store were displaying in the window.

Creeping Calvinism

They'll let anyone preach at Southwestern...

Roger Olson is right. Those sneeky Calvinists are infiltrating every corner of polite society. It seems that Carl Trueman has even begun the process of reform at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Two Mountains, Many Tables, and Supping with God

How can we approach our holy God? Isn’t this the age-old question? From the beginning of Scripture we have an amazing event recorded, even more remarkable than the creation itself: God reveals himself to man and condescends to have a relationship with him. The mere fact that we even have the Scriptures testifies to one of my favorite titles for a book,

From the beginning of Scripture we have an amazing event recorded, even more remarkable than the creation itself: God reveals himself to man and condescends to have a relationship with him. The mere fact that we even have the Scriptures testifies to one of my favorite titles for a book, He Is There and He Is Not Silent (Francis Schaeffer).

Reader's Block

Reading scripture out loud in worship is something all churches (hopefully) do but also something which Daniel Block argues has been sadly neglected.

One of the striking things about Daniel Block’s new book, For the Glory of God, is that it assumes throughout that most basic and often neglected of truths: the church is a creation and an act of God’s grace, not our response to his grace.  In the strictest sense, we do not do church; God does church.

Now That I Think About It...

...maybe I was "converted under duress." This is one of Captain Believer's Baptism Only's arguments against my fellow MoS co-hosts.

Worth reading...

If you are new to Ref21 then you ought to know that we believe things like baptism and church governance are important.
