Jesus Christ is the reason for the season!

Here's Why that Matters to You

You can sense that something is wrong. You feel troubled by the evil that surrounds us in the world, but you also carry a burden of guilt for what you’ve done or said to others—you might even feel shame for who you are. You realize that if you stood before God today, you’d deserve His judgement. You feel helpless. What can rescue us from this hopeless situation?

How it Began

God created you to enjoy an eternal friendship with Him. He wants to be with you. But something went terribly wrong. The first people God created chose to disobey the one rule He required them to follow. Because of that disobedience (sin), Adam’s failure led to condemnation for all men and women. Instead of enjoying His presence, we now are worthy of His righteous punishment. We’re spiritually dead, and—what’s worse—each of us continues to disobey our Creator in our own way. What can save us from God’s wrath?

God Provides the Way

From the moment Adam disobeyed, God began to put in place a means for us to be reconciled to Him! Because of our imperfection, there is nothing we can do or say to earn or deserve His forgiveness. No…only a perfect person could provide the perfect payment for our sins. So, what did God do? The answer is in the Bible’s best-known verse: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Your Response

But how do you lay claim to what that perfect Son—Jesus Christ—has done for you? You need to simply admit to God that you’re unable to save yourself, and receive His forgiveness as a free gift. You need to tell God that you’re sorry for what you’ve done, that you want to change your direction in life and follow Jesus for the rest of your life.  Many have prayed to God like this:

"Father God, I admit that I am a sinner, and I can do nothing on my own to earn Your forgiveness. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died to make full payment for my sins, and rose again to gain that forgiveness on my behalf. I desire to turn from that sin, receive that gift of salvation, and follow Jesus all the days of my life. Amen."

The Result

If your words reflect the true intentions of your heart, and you allow God to change you, you’ll enjoy His forgiveness and presence in your life now, and for all eternity!  Find a healthy local church, and begin to read the Bible. Let God know about your struggles and blessings each and every day. You’ll still fail every once in a while; life won’t suddenly become perfect! But knowing the reason for the season makes every holiday come alive!
