Retreat Description

We’ve all had the experience of visiting a church that seemed indifferent to us—sometimes outright unfriendly! That’s probably not the culture you want for your own church, yet unhelpful mindsets and practices can take hold unnoticed. Eventually even fellow believers may start to feel like outsiders, and the congregation misses out on opportunities to serve and grow.

How can you foster a church environment that incorporates all believers into your worship and church life? Healthy ministry requires intentionality, a conscious remembrance of the gospel so that pastors, church leaders, and churches themselves don’t drift away.

The Faithful Shepherd Pastors’ Retreat is an affordable regional event for pastors, elders, ministry leaders, and their wives. Our goal is to give you a chance to rest, connect, and enjoy God’s creation, while bringing you practical wisdom and encouragement. Come, remember the gospel, and celebrate with us! Join us for a time of fellowship and encouragement as we explore God’s teaching on the welcoming church and spiritual health of its leaders. Learn how God can use your church to reach out and welcome His people.

Speaker Biographies

Joe Novenson is the blessed husband of Barb for 42 years. He actually married his evangelist! He is honored to be the father of three children whose own walks with Christ bring him deep conviction and challenge, as he sees their faith out-pace his own walk in so many ways. He is a grandfather of four and savors playing with his grandchildren with joyous delight. His heroes are John Newton and John Paton.

Irwyn Ince serves as Pastor and Director of the newly formed Grace DC Network Institute for Cross-Cultural Mission. In 2007 he helped plant City of Hope Presbyterian Church, a multi-ethnic PCA church in Columbia, MD. He served as City of Hope’s pastor until 2017. Irwyn is also very happy about his CrossFit addiction.

Randy Nabors is urban and mercy coordinator for the PCA’s Mission to North America (MNA), as well as the coordinator of the New City Network and an author and blogger. Previously he served as an army chaplain (COL) and pastored New City Fellowship for 36 years. He and his wife, Joan, live in Chattanooga.

Deepak Reju is a pastor, counselor, husband, father, and author. His passion is for studying God’s Word, loving his family, and shepherding God’s people. He is the pastor of biblical counseling and families at Capitol Hill Baptist Church in Washington, DC, and has written several books, including On Guard: Preventing and Responding to Child Abuse at Church.
