Following Jesus 72

How are Followers of Jesus to conduct Ministry? 1 Corinthians 4:1-2. “This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God. Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”

Followers of Jesus are to conduct ministry as servants. Vs. 1a. “This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ…” The point of view that needs to be stressed by those doing ministry, and those receiving the same, is that ministers are to be regarded as servants: not rock stars.

Secondly, followers of Jesus are to conduct ministry as stewards. Vs. 1b. “…and stewards of the mysteries of God.”

A steward (οἰκονόμος) is a manager of a household or an administrator. A steward is one who has the authority and responsibility for something—‘one who is in charge of, one who is responsible for, administrator, manager.’

Finally, followers of Jesus are to conduct ministry as followers who are faithful. Vs. 2. “Moreover, it is required of stewards that they be found faithful.”

Additionally, the Apostle Paul wants the church to know that it is absolutely necessary that stewards of God be found faithful. This means they are trustworthy in their task, committed to their task, dependable as they fulfill their task along with being honorable to God.

What kind of ministry are you involved in presently?

If you are not involved in a ministry at this time, are you willing to ask God to show you what He wants you to do?

If you are involved in a ministry at this time, are you willing to ask God to show you what new ministries may be open to you, and what current ministries may be coming to a conclusion?

Do you struggle with giving God the glory in the ministry in which you are involved? If so, ask Him immediately to continue to give you an attitude of humility as He renews your desire to give Him the glory.
