Victorious Justice

"…until He send forth judgment unto victory., and in His name the Gentiles shall have hope." (Matthew 12:20, 21)

For at the same moment that our Lord took the measure of the Pharisees and withdrew from them, He also announced that the days of His humility would not last forever.  The evil heart of man will take advantage of the one who does not strive or cry, and whose voice is not heard.  The world has learned to call the tempered steel of the sword of the Lord "softness," simply because He does not flash its cutting blade as the world would do in His place.  But listen to these words that at the same time strike terror and bring joy: "A bruised reed shall He not break, and smoking flax shall He not quench, UNTIL . . ."  Ah! So there is to be an end of His patience!  He shall not act in full strength "until He send forth judgment unto victory."  Listen to those two words: judgment, victory.  They sound out like the ringing of a death knell, or they peal forth with the joy of the wedding.  It all depends where you stand in relation to this Man, the Christ of God.  You must have Him in one of these two ways—judgment or victory.  We thank God that we know forever just what our situation is with reference to this Man.  He has taken our judgment, that is past forever. There is nothing left for us but His victory.  You can know this too.

He shall send forth judgment unto victory.  It is coming.  Righteousness shall reign upon the earth.  Man sends forth justice but she goes lame before reaching her goal.  Man sends forth justice, but she is given a sack of gold so heavy that the burden tires her and she stops to rest on the way.  Man sends forth justice but she is flattered by the wayside and turns to smile on the one who spoke.  But when our Lord Jesus Christ sends forth judgment it shall be unto victory.  Which will you have, the judgment or the victory?  The Bible is very definite in its prophecies concerning the future.  There is a picture of this sending forth of judgment - we read these words, "The kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of Him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: for the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" (Revelation 6:15–17).

The only ones that shall be able to stand are those who shall be standing in Him.

Dr. Barnhouse warns that the one who would not crush a bruised reed will eventually crush His enemies.  Where human justice has failed to accomplish its goal in this world Christ’s justice will succeed.
