When we think of being harnessed together with others in Christ’s school it is possible to be discouraged, especially if we reflect that the work is hard and the course of instruction is unending.

Perhaps the Lord sensed this as He spoke, for He appended three powerful inducements to His call.

Who could have seen this coming?  Other than everybody, that is.

The indefatigable Rachel Miller is telling another tale. Or is it the same one?   I'm losing count at this point. Given the scale of the evidence (once again) one wonders what some people have to do to lose credibility in the Christian world.  But it is the Year of the Donald, I guess -- though it's a bad sign for society as a whole when the politicians are as teflon-coated as the church leaders.

It means that we are hitched to His team or enlisted in His service. We are soldiers in His army, builders of His temple, evangelists for His gospel, ambassadors of His kingdom.

The Laments: Where the Mind and the Heart Meet

There’s a place in Scripture where the mind and heart meet, where thoughts and feelings come together: the Psalms of Lament. And in the laments we see that while both the mind and heart are important, there are times when one needs to lead the other.

We often categorize ourselves as being either a thinker or a feeler. A thinker is more likely to make decisions and act based on knowledge and a feeler based on emotion. When it comes to matters of faith, a thinker would emphasize what we know about God’s word and a feeler what we feel or experience in our faith. It seems like an either/or choice; it’s either the mind or the heart.

Somehow, I’ve ended up with a copy of Ken Golden’s new book, Presbytopia, signed by none other than Carl Trueman. How does such a thing happen? Well, I certainly didn’t pilfer it right of his bookshelf or anything. I mean, he said I could have it. Now I’m wondering what other books I could have walked away with while he was in the giving mood…
