Christ our Intercessor

Christ's intercession is so often the forgotten part of His redemptive work. We rightfully focus upon the incarnation, crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. We know the important role that each of these play in the establishment of our salvation, but what about Christ's work as our intercessor? We are robbing ourselves of much of the Christian life and faith when we do not give Christ's intercession the attention it is due. There is much encouragement and comfort in understanding that Christ is our High Priest, who lives to make intercession.

I grew up listening to the Eagles, Boston, Chicago, Rolling Stones, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, and the Beatles. And whenever I think about the Beatles, I feel a little sad for the forgotten Beatle. Everyone knows John Lennon and Paul McCartney. We debate about which one of these two was more essential to the Beatles. Most know Ringo Starr, largely because he is such an unique individual. But who is the fourth Beatle? Most people in America probably couldn't name him. They could name Lennon, McCartney, maybe Ringo Starr, but George Harrison is often forgotten.

What Is Forgiveness?

This question of forgiveness arose in the lives of some Christians that I know, one of whom did a very grievous wrong to some other children of God. There was deep sin involved, including a definite transgression of at least three of the Ten Commandments. There were several friends involved who sided with the transgressor. One of these bystanders talked on the telephone with the Christians who had been sinned against, and in the course of the conversation the latter said, "Of course, we are ready to forgive. . . we must forgive. . ."

Your Naked Truth

I read an article the other day that is still bothering me. I think that it captures a lie that many men and women believe about beauty and love. A 59-year-old wrote it, but this is the same problem I see in 18-year-olds.

Triumph

The possibilities of triumph in Christ are unlimited. The position to which He has called us is as high as heaven (Eph. 2:6). The power that He has provided for us is the power of omnipotence (Matt. 28:18; Acts 1:3). The wisdom He has in store for us is the wisdom of omniscience (1 Cor. 1:30). The peace He has made for us is the quiet calm of eternity (Col. 1:20). The love which He has toward us is His own infinite being (1 John 4:16). The blessings with which He has blessed us are guaranteed in the heavenly places (Eph. 1:3). The resources which He has deposited to our account are presently and readily available (Phil. 4:13). The battles which we must fight have already been won for us by the triumph of Christ upon the cross (1 Cor. 10:13; Col. 2:15).
