High Maintenance Christians Are Better Than Nice Ones.

Whether it’s in my friendships, vocations, or my relationship with God, I don’t really want to be that high maintenance person. I want to be easy to befriend, easy to serve alongside, and easy to save.

“It costs God nothing, so far as we know, to create nice things; but to convert rebellious wills costs Him crucifixion.” ---C.S. Lewis

A Matter of Substance

A leading evangelical ethicist is now pro-LGBT. The move is neither a small nor a simple one but it is scarcely radical or surprising.

Jonathan Merritt reports that evangelical ethicist David Gushee is now pro-LGBT.  The move will no doubt be greeted by some as a sign of cultural capitulation and a rejection of biblical authority. Others will regard it as a hopeful sign that evangelicalism might come to regard as legitimate sexual relationships between those of the same sex.  But, while it may be a sign of the times, it is hardly radical or revolutionary.

Biblical Inerrancy and the Greener Pastures Fallacy

There has been quite a lot of discussion in recent years about evangelical scholarship in the Old Testament and the validity of the doctrine of Scriptural inerrancy. As I watch from my perch in an evangelical and Reformed seminary, I have a few preliminary thoughts on some of the issues that seem to keep coming up.

"...Where Everybody Knows Your Name"

Do we have a drink for failures?

Things have been pretty crazy at the new bar/website. Todd, Carl, and I didn’t realize just how busy we would be with all the new frequenters. You know what they say, bartending involves counseling skills. And not to name any names, but some of us are a little more sensitive than others. Nonetheless, we have had many men, women, and children come visit.

All the commotion distracted us from realizing that some people weren’t getting in the door. Apparently, the new place came with a few glitches.

In Haste

Just a quick word about this week's podcast because the Mad Woman in the Attic has us on a very tight schedule.

This week's podcast is up, in which the Ref Pack talk about the greatest Reformer of them all.  Further, anyone interested in catching a live videocast of a recording of the show, when we will be interviewing Dr Kent Hughes during the Preaching Conference at Westminster, will find a live stream at this link from 2pm to 330pm EST.

Chaput on the Significance of Gay Marriage

Gay marriage is the -- or at least a -- tipping point in American life, according to Archbishop Charles Chaput.

Yesterday, Jon Master and I headed north to New York to hear Roman Catholic  Archbishop of Philadelphia, Charles Chaput, deliver the 2014 Erasmus Lecture, ‘Strangers in a Strange Land.’  As a Protestant, I was interested to hear first-hand a Roman Catholic assessment of the de-Christianization of North American society.

How It All Began

Did you know that Carl and Todd once dreamed of becoming cage fighters?

I am meeting up with Todd and Carl this Tuesday and Wednesday at Westminster Theological Seminary to particiapte on a panel discussion with Dr. R. Kent Hughes for the 2014 Pastor's Conference. I'm honored that WTS invites a housewife's perspective into the discussion. But it all got me thinking about how far the three of us have come.

With Apologies to Disco Dan

I was wrong. Disco Dan got there first.

A couple of weeks ago, I commended Dan Block's excellent book on worship and commented that it was one of the only things of which I was aware that addressed the public reading of scripture in a clear and practical manner.  TeamPyro's Disco Dan promptly drew my attention to the fact that he had written a good, practical post on this issue over at PyroManiacs.  It is well worth reading and you can find it here.
